We're trying something new on the blog, starting today. Since Melissa's regular Friday post is called "Office Hours," we thought we should actually start bringing you into her office and allow you to hear from her directly. Here's our first (of many, we hope) video edition of "Office Hours."
Enjoy, and be sure to join us tomorrow when we return to our regular schedule at 10am ET on msnbc!
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry offers a preview of her Saturday show, covering everything from Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney's VP pick, Joe Biden's "chains" remarks, and the story of a Russian punk band that was criminally charged for standing up to President Putin.

Democratic Russia is an oxymoron. Thank you that is all.
Melissa, can you tell me, is S.E. Cupp's first name SIZE? Just wondering.
we seem to want to think we have such high standards without practicing them...
vpBiden mispoke. Not a gaff. He didn't say anything racist or evan remotely wrong. The first time I heard this, I thought, & still think he had the song 'unChain my heart' on his mind. He loves all of us.
We need some civil disobedience. I think anyone who wants to vote can campOut at their local polling place until someone 'inCharge' decides they are not dead or someone's dog & deserve to be counted.
We need some civil obedience. Anyone interfering with anyone's vote at the polls is breaking the law & deserves to be arrested. Offened Citizens must press this charge.
WHOM exactly are we trying to protect from voter suppression? Really?
How is it that requiring “OLD People” or “POOR People” or even Minority People” can be seen to be “Voter Suppression”? That is such a ridiculous argument that no one is listening to it. The fact of the matter is that there is “NO WAY” to be either old or poor in this country without having legitimate ID already, and everyone knows that.
How do you think old people use MEDICARE or cash SOCIAL SECURITY Checks, or even use the ER? You already have to have ID to do any of that. How do poor people register for welfare, or unemployment benefits, or food stamps, or even sign their kids up for school lunch without ID? They can’t. You can’t even obtain college loans, buy cigarettes or beer without an ID. So the truth is that everyone already has it that needs it, so “WHOM are you REALLY trying to protect from being suppressed?
Just because everyone in your circle has ID does not make it so throughout the nation. From experience, I can assure you that cigarettes and beer can be purchased without an official ID. I think the best, and mostly ignored, solution would be to put in place a system guaranteeing EVERY qualified person an ID and only THEN requiring the use of said ID.
So asking for ID is voter suppression? Really? Why is that? Because old people or poor people can't get legitimate ID? Really? Soooo .... how do old people use their Medicare, or cash their social security check, how do they get into the ER, not to mention how did you get through 60, 70, or 80 years in America without an ID anyways? Really?
And if you are poor isn't the 1st thing you have to do is get valid ID? How do you register with welfare? How do you cash a social security check or a unemployment check? Don't you have to have ID to register for food stamps or put your kids in a school lunch program? To obtain all the benifits that are available to them , the poor already have to establish valid proof of ID and are already capable of being able to vote.
So if the old and the poor are already able to vote and show proper ID, just who are the people that are being suppressed? Really? Time for you and the libs to get a new argument ... really!
WHOM exactly are we trying to protect from voter suppression? Really?
While Melissa was discussing the ramifications of the new voter ID law in PA today, Repus were busy suppressing the vote even more:
1) The Repu governor, Corbett, announced plans to drop on-line voter registration.. Why you ask?.. because the state will be too busy implementing the new voter-id requirements. Note that the Judge who ruled in favor of the law, justified that the law would not suppress voters rights, because PA would provide a nifty "ID of last resort". This card was originally promised early July, but there is no guarantee that it will be available anytime before November.
2) The PA State Repu Party is trying to toss petitions by members of the Constitution and Libertarian parties to get their candidates on Pennsylvania's ballot for president, vice president and a number of other offices.
Did I mention I am a libertarian? I resent needing to re-establish my right to vote by taking the cost, time and effort to obtain the necessary ID. Isn't this what they mean by a poll tax?
‘White Privilege’ and the ‘Black Experience’ are different sides of the same coin.
Unless you’re born into it, it is impossible to truly understand the other, comparable only maybe to the uniqueness of pregnancy, leading to child delivery.
