JC Penney
One Million Moms' Spidey Senses must be tingling, because JC Penney is about to make another bold statement: taking a cue from their Mother's Day ad, JC Penney will release a Father's Day ad next month that will feature a family with two dads.
The caption in the catalogue indicates that the family in the ad (right) are not just models; the two men are a real-life couple who are the parents of the photographed children as well. "What makes Dad so cool?" the ad asks. "He's the swim coach, tent maker, best friend, bike fixer and hug giver — all rolled into one. Or two."
The new ad has yet to make it to the One Million Moms list of issues, but given their vociferous sound and fury regarding all things gay lately at the department-store retailer, we can expect them to chime in soon. The conservative group has led two unsuccessful boycotts recently against JC Penney — first, over JC Penney's partnership with Ellen DeGeneres; and second, over a Mother's Day ad that featured a family with two moms. In response to the Mother's Day ad, One Million Moms released a statement that accused the department-store retailer of taking "sides" and attacking traditional families.
The way I see it, the definition of "traditional families" has evolved over time, and will continue to evolve and change. Why can't two dads be celebrated on Father's Day in public the same way a family with one dad and one mom are celebrated? Call me ignorant, but I don't think parenthood should be condemned because of sexual orientation. What makes a parent extraordinary is their commitment to family, love, and community, not whether or not they fit some antiquated one-man-one-woman that organizations such as One Million Moms seek to reinforce.
(We figured that we could wait for their standard homophobic response, but why not just address their main points now and save ourselves the time later?)

I hate it when people act as though there is one right way for families to look and the simple presence of gay people is somehow harmful to that and therefore should be stopped. Gay people exist, what are advertisers suppose to do, pretend that they don't and never show them.
Act? There's no 'acting' about it. There is one 'right' way for families to look. The two children in the picture did not come into existence via their 'two dads'. I find it both hilarious and sad when people like you imply that it's possible for 'two dads' or 'two moms' to reproduce.
There is only one way that we continue as a people and a civilization. Perversions that twist ideals and produce demented thinking like yours create groups of people (in this case the 'gay community') whose lifestyle is based on a failure in other areas of society in order for it to propagate.
All of this arguing is pretty much irrelevant anyway.... when the Savior returns... and He will... you will unfortunately find out you're wrong.... the hard way.
@The Rightthing....I pity your small closed mind.
If two people LOVE each other, than why must you hate and discriminate against it? I'm pretty sure your Jesus didn't say something like "I love you all, but since I'm a man I am morally bound to only love women...sorry guys" and "Love each other...but only towards the opposite sex, otherwise you'll burn"
I am a straight, white, American woman who can clearly see that your views are outdated and absurd.
Good day sir, I hope you can be saved from yourself someday.
JCP is just screwing with them, now.
Screwing with who?!? One Million Moms? Uh hey... Mr. Business Major... bad news is this....
JCP is the business. It needs customers.
The one million moms are the customers. They DON'T need JCP.
JCP loses. They can put whatever they want in their ignorant ads. OMM's just stop buying there. So long JCP.
BTW.... One Million Mom's and it's affiliates and family members total about 12 million people. That's not counting the 10's of millions of other religious based groups that will dump them. Just stupid marketing I'd say. No matter what side you're on.
I give JCP one to two years and they're toast.
Where there is love and support, comfort and acceptance... we all win.
Rock on, JCP.
Which one's the mom?
The author says that "what makes a parent is not that they fit some antiquated one-man-one-woman" model. Yes, that is ignorant of her. If you really want to test the "antiquated" theory, it is simple. Put a heterosexual opposite-sex couple in an isolated environment, and put a homosexual same-sex couple in an isolated environment. Leave them alone for a generation. Then tell me which parenting model is antiquated, and which is extinct.
Exactly. Plus... there is a reason we were created to pro-create with a member of the opposite sex. The balance in nuturing that occurs with both a mom and a dad is essential proper development. I'm guessing that soon the left will promote one man and one pig. Hey... JCP... there's your next marketing plan.
What do you think is going to happen when you anger your conservative base customers and cater to a gay group that makes up maybe 5% of the population? Revenue at other stores is up & JC Penny is tanking. But I'm sure it's just the new changes in sales & coupons, right? WWJCPD, What would James Cash Penny do? Wake up guys, time to fire someone. signed- EX-loyal customer for 20 years.
@wbronco hahahahah! 5% of the population?? where do you live? under a rock? if you wanna go there, i bet more gay people make up the population than your own race, and that is just counting the open, and not even counting the closet ones like yourself probably... they come in all shapes colors and sizes just like human beings do. Step outside and look around you, they're everywhere honey, get over it...
Hilarious! You're the one under a rock pal. Gays outnumbering straights.... not hardly. You live in San Fran maybe?!? And there you go using that 'you're gay because you oppose the gay lifestyle' rhetoric.
More likely is that you fear admitting that you disagree with the whole gay movement yourself deep inside so you 'JOIN THEM' instead of fighting them. In fact, your incorrect statistic reflects your fear that 'they are now the majority so I better climb on board'. Good luck with your struggle. Neither wbronco or myself are gay nor are about 87% of the population including 80% of those who claim to be gay today. Rest assured, those who may or may not be born with 'same-sex' tendencies are fewer numbers than you can imagine. Those who 'choose' a gay lifestyle to get attention, avoid opposite sex relationships, buck against their parents upbringing or a myriad of other excuses... make up the majority of todays 'gays'.
See you later JCP. Nice knowing you. Hope you have nice big locations on the east and west coasts. That will probably be the only areas you'll survive.
@The Rightthing
I appreciate your point of view, as I have been having trouble seeing the other side of the gay marriage debate, as I have seen no reason why I shouldn't be able to get married to the person that I love, but you have allowed me to see this through another lens. I now know that the other side of the debate is ignorance. As for your stance that children need both a male and female to nurture and care for them, even if it may be correct, is not relevant. If it was, single parent homes would be banned, and honestly I grew up with two loving heterosexual parents, and to you I turned out wrong. Both of my siblings are straight, I'm just not. Another detail that many naysayers refuse to see is that if gays shouldn't be able to marry because they can't reproduce, then why can infertile couples marry? It's all an honest question. My last argument (in this post) is of religion. I believe in God. I am Catholic. I have been taught since the day I was born that I am wrong, and that I will burn in my afterlife. One of my biggest dreams is to get to the gates of heaven and be told that I can come too. Despite this I have stopped kidding myself, and started standing up for people. If gay couples should not get married because of religion, that would be breaking the constitution. Separation of church and state. Most gays don't want to have a religion holding them back from being who they are. I would be obliged to hear back from you with an opinion backed with intelligence.
