I'm just going to let hip-hop DJ and videoblogger nonpareil Jay Smooth cook here, since this is about the best response I've seen anyone offer to Newark mayor Cory Booker's defense of private equity and false equivalence on last week's Meet the Press -- including my own.
Jay touches on Booker's Wall Street ties -- cited by today's guest Steve Kornacki in his response -- and notes:
It made everything ten times more awkward than it would've been if Cory Booker had just come out and said, "I have allegiances to the private-equity world, and I think we should be fair to them."
What's most "nauseating" about all this to you, #nerdland? The comment thread is open.

What's distressing to me personally is that we have two black men who are referencing this from their individual perspectives resulting in the racist fringe of the republican party's ability to be divisive.
Cory Booker and Jonathan Alter are both the same 3rd way Democrat Financier types, who worship at Alter of Private Profit at any cost to the Public...They do not care if Public Schools fail if it will save them or earn them a Dollar!!!
Isn't it amazing how they either come up missing or show up with the wrong message when President Obama is in need of defenders of his policies???
To understand Cory Booker, Go back to Mark Twain. In a late essay called "Corn-Pone Opinions", Twain recounted the story of a young slave who was his peer and deemed by young Twain to be a great orator and very wise about the world. One of his sermons began: "You tell me whar a man gits his corn pone, en I'll tell you what his 'pinions is."
Cory Booker (and Mitt Romney) get their corn pone from Venture Capital. Need I say more?
I just find it distressing that a supposed "rising star" in the Democratic Party would go on a national political talk show and say anything against a President of his own party who is running for re-election. He had to know that his words would be used by the Republicans against President Obama. Whose side is he on? He sure doesn't sound like a supporter of the President. Also, while I am certainly not against success or making money, firms like Bain and other venture capitalists are not in the business of job creation. That jobs may be created (or destroyed) in their pursuit of profits is irrelevant to them.
Cool video..but summarizes everything that's already been said thus far in the media about Corey. Everyone should know by now Corey pals around with those with money. If you don't know just remember the $100 mil he got from billionaire Facebook guy aka Mark Zuckerberg....let's move on from this story already
That pretty much summed it up! True colors are just that true colors ...and Cory Booker showed his !
I ain't mad at you Cory (and all you others)...you do what you feel you gotta do and make it work for you. I just hope that it's worth it to you, cause once your soul is sold to the devil, it is forever gone.
