The New York Daily News report on #millionhoodies:
The parents of the unarmed black Florida teenager slain three weeks ago by an overzealous neighborhood watchman joined a “million hoodie” march in Union Square Wednesday demanding the shooter’s arrest.
“Our son is your son,” Trayvon Martin’s mom Sybrina Fulton told a big crowd.
“This is not a black and white thing. This is a right and wrong thing.”
The demonstrators burst into a chant of “Justice for Trayvon!”
"My heart is in pain. But seeing the support from all of you, really makes a difference,” she said.
Demonstrators wearing hoodies took turns calling out “Am I suspicious?"
Jumaane Williams, the city councilman arrested during last year’s West Indian Parade, said, "I know I’m black. I reek of Brooklyn. But I'm not a criminal. I'm a city councilman. Some of us are doctors. Some of us are President of the United States of America. Our blood is not cheap.”
Update: I attended the event, and (my best attempt at a) photo gallery is now embedded at the top. "Blacking It Up" host and previous "MHP" guest Elon James White filed a report for NewsOne, as did Lawrence O'Donnell on last night's "Last Word." You can find both after the jump. I'd also recommend reading Elon's commentary on the protest, which is critical of Occupy Wall Street's involvement in it.
More than a 1,000 people marched in New York City to protest the killing of Trayvon Martin, and another event will be held in Florida on Thursday. TheGrio.com's Goldie Taylor, who was at the NYC rally, and host of "Make It Plain on Sirius/XM satellite radio, Mark Thompson, join The Last Word to discuss the public's growing outrage and calls for justice.

Zimmerman, you shall reap what you sow. You can hide out somewhere if you want to, but the truth shall come to light. You know darned well that Trayvon did not assault you. You took your self-imposed duty just a little too far and now you have the Sanford Police Dept. scrambling to cover you? What do you know about them that we don't? Are you a witness protected by the police? All I can do is shake my head in anger and disbelief that you so callously took an innocent life...I pray that God has mercy on your soul...
This young boy is not a black vs white issue it is a 99% vs the 1% issue.
They, the south, needs to organize so that issues such as this will be less frequent.
When we union brothers and sisters stand up to the gated communities they stand back. We take oaths at the union local level to see a man or a woman as only that a 99% nothing else and we fight for each other, period. Until they understand the need for unions down there this will keep going on and on. And we union people who are probably 85 % white will have to do what the south cannot do. reelect the big "O"
Black-White issue no
99%-1% issue yes
southern 99ers have no power
northern do
You guys are probably going to loose this one with Bush's law
but watch what we union folks do to Scott Walker in June.
You need to get color out of your heads down south and union brother and
sister hood in. Then things like Bush's law will not be. Wait till Noc you will
depend on us (the big bad unions of the north) to give the big "O" his victory because we have power something you think is bad. Meantime he a great working class president cannot depend on the non organized south. And will live with all their stupid laws.
Charles, I know you said you were white, but... are you sure you can find your way home safely? You appear to be... disoriented.
